Upper Lake Ranger Station

Hilliard Architects designed a one-story wood-frame office building that replaced 3 existing office buildings. This 9,079 sf building supports 33 permanent, 13 seasonal, 18 temporary employees. The building design fits the community theme and historic nature of the site; it still presented the Forest Service’s image as a quality natural resource agency.
 
This project included demolition of three buildings and site preparation. It also included, connection to water, sewer and telecom services, the conduit system, existing power, the underground sprinkler system, the access to road and parking, the information kiosk, and landscaping.

The project conformed to the Forest Service’s BEIG (Built Environment Image Guide) where all agency structures incorporate principals of sustainability, reflect their place within the natural and cultural landscape, and provide optimal service to customers and cooperators. Site planning offered easy wayfinding, convenient parking, accessibility, safe and attractive pedestrian circulation, minimal site disturbance, native landscaping, vegetative shading.
