Hilliard Architects designed the Lassen National Forest Emergency Communications Center, which services four Northern California counties and parts of Nevada. This project was DSA reviewed and approved. The USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and the California Department of Forestry jointly funded this project.
Hilliard Architects was able to build consensus among these agencies and other stakeholders for a successful outcome.
The Results
The south side of this 9,000sf building incorporates a greater amount of glass and additional interior solar mass to take advantage of passive solar heating. A multi-zone heating and air conditioning system maximizes energy saving, and the south facing roof was purposely kept free of plumbing vents pipes to allow for the future installation of solar collectors.
