Paper-backed gypsum board should be banned in all healthcare environments

Cardiothoracic intensive care unit closed due to mold infestation:

Mold needs moisture and a nutritional source in order to thrive—water leakage and paper-on-paper backed gypsum board offer the perfect substrate. Take away the paper, replace it with fiberglass and a source of mold infestation is removed.

Fiberglass-backed has already replaced paper-backed gypsum board in most exterior wall construction. With patients being particularly vulnerable to environmental threats, healthcare construction should follow suit.
