CA’s New Single-Occupancy Bathroom Law

This is big news for any entity in California with public single-occupancy bathrooms. California law AB 1732 was signed into law on Sept. 29, 2016 and will require single-occupancy restrooms in California businesses, government buildings, and places of public accommodation to be universally accessible to all genders starting March 1, 2017.

“Single-user toilet facility” means a toilet facility with no more than one water closet and one urinal with a locking mechanism controlled by the user.
