Using Aerial Tech to Diagnose Problems

A 50-year-old building began showing signs of concrete spalling and exterior degradation. Locating possible points of failure along a tall facade typically requires investigators to hang from roof harnesses.

A less expensive, safer solution was needed so Hilliard Architects used a remote-controlled drone. The team captured video of the entire building surface, creating a visual map and index of damaged areas.

Where traditional investigative techniques would have cost more in time and money, the drone also eliminated the potential for additional damage caused by investigators rappelling the exterior.

The owner appreciated this use of drone technology and the document we created which cataloged problem locations and outlined solutions for different scenarios.
