High-Efficiency Chiller Installation

High-Efficiency Chiller Installation

The Energy Center on a healthcare campus was served by three 450-ton chillers and cooling towers which are insufficient to support existing loads during peak summer months.

Hilliard Architects replace two of the chillers with 600 ton high efficiency chillers to meet with the campus cooling load capacity. Additionally, a new water side economizer plate and frame heat exchanger was installed to reduce chiller operating hours and operating costs.

The client had assumed that they would need an additional cooling tower to increase chilled water capacity, but we were able to connect the existing two cooling towers together to operate more efficiently as one unit; and with the colder chilled water provided by the high efficiency chillers, an additional cooling tower was not required.
