Accessible Dining Tables & Counters

Requirements from 2019 California Building Code

  • Accessible Dining Tables or Counters require a clear floor space of 30 inches by 48 inches minimum with 19 inches minimum of that space under the table for wheelchair access.
    • Top of table measured to top of floor is 30 inches maximum.
    • Bottom edge of table measured from top of floor is 27 inches minimum.
    • 30 inches by 48 inches clear floor space cannot have anything on the floor.
    • 30 inches by 48 inches clear floor space cannot have any table supports.
  • Accessible dining or drinking bar/counter needs to meet the above requirements and must have a bar/counter surface a minimum of 60 inches in width.
  • A MINIMUM of 5 percent of the seating spaces and standing spaces at the dining/bar/counter surfaces shall be accessible.
  • Accessible seating is required to be dispersed throughout with accessible seating in each type of seating.
